Dear National Native Network Members and Stakeholders,
Beginning Monday, April 1st, 2013, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will have launched its second season of their TIPS from Former Smokers campaign! Tips ads will be featuring new participants and run through June 23, 2013.
The ads will focus on real stories from real people who are affected from smoking and second-hand smoke. This year, diverse populations are highlighted. Two of these ads will target the Alaska Native and American Indian population. Michael is an Alaska Native, and member of the Tlingit tribe who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. Nathan is a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe and suffers from lung damage due to second-hand smoke exposure at the casino where he used to work. Both Michael and Nathan have drastically been affected by second-hand smoke.
You will find these stories as well as materials and resources to utilize and share with your partners and communities on the CDC website, CDC Tips II Resources and Materials or on the National Native Network website, www.keepitsacred.org.
