Bailey Joins National Native Network
 
 
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. – The National Native Network is pleased to announce the recent addition of Mr. Derek J. Bailey as the new Government Relations and Tribal Policy Consultant at the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan (ITCM).  He will serve as the group’s liaison to tribal organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
     “We are honored that Derek has joined our National Native Network team,” said Noel Pingatore, Health Education and Chronic Disease Department Manager at the ITCM.   “His educational background combined with his vast experience in tribal government, as well as his work both clinical and administrative in the area of behavioral health, will be a great addition to our mission and our efforts.”
     Bailey served as the Tribal Chairman for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians from 2008 to 2012, and on the GTB Tribal Council from 2004 to 2008.  In 2010 he was appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education.  He received a master’s degree in social work from Grand Valley State University. "I am extremely pleased,” said Bailey “to be working as part of the National Native Network team at the Inter-Tribal Council of MI. My hope is to further complement all the work that has been done and assist in areas that are part of my educational and career background,”
     The National Native Network was established in the spring of 2008 in an effort to create a true collaborative-interlocking system of stakeholders

within American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Its mission is to provide a forum for tribes and tribal organizations to obtain and disseminate information in order to identify and eliminate health disparities related to commercial tobacco abuse. The National Native Network has created a system of information sharing that maximizes members’ ability to deliver highly effective programs that are evidence-based and culturally relevant. The network hosts a repository of commercial tobacco prevention resources which members can access in their efforts to improve the quality of stakeholder interventions.
